Prosecutor Patrick Harrington


Pat Harrington has served as the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor since 2007. During his legal career, he has tried approximately 100 jury trials as both a Prosecutor and a Defense Attorney.

He was the first Tippecanoe County prosecutor to be appointed by the U.S. District Attorney, Northern District of Indiana, as a United States Special Assistant Attorney and was assigned to a federal task force combatting local gang and drug activity.

As a passionate advocate for our community’s safety, Pat has worked with state legislators to enact new laws, including increased sentences for drug traffickers, gang members, and impaired drivers. Pat has worked on legislation to protect women and children who have been sexually abused, and for child victims of sex and human trafficking.

In 2020, Pat worked closely on the digital crime bill authorizing the creation of multiple statewide digital forensic laboratories to improve the evidence gathering capabilities of law enforcement. He has assisted with improving animal legislation which provides further protection for both individuals and their pets. Pat has frequently testified before the Indiana Senate and House of Representatives. He has served on the Indiana Association of Prosecuting Attorney (2012-current) and is a Past President (2020).

Pat has been recognized by several organizations for his leadership and dedication to community safety initiatives. These include the 2024 Powell-Feller Award by the Indiana Association of Prosecuting Attorneys for outstanding service to prosecutors and law enforcement in the State of Indiana, the 2015 National Prosecutor of the Year Award by the national crime prevention We-Tip agency, and the 2019 Animal Welfare Prosecutor of the Year.

Pat was born and raised in Lafayette, graduating from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1976, Purdue University in 1980 and Valparaiso University School of Law in1983.
